SUN BOARD GAMES

COMMISSIONED

Event #: SUN-BG-1 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Can You Expand the Faith and Create the New Testament in the Face of Roman Persecution?

Commissioned is a cooperative/collaborative-style boardgame involving a “reverse” Pandemic and deck-building mechanic. Using a beautifully designed two-sided board, players represent one of six early Christian Apostles who must work together to mature their faith decks, grow the church, collect the books of the New Testament, and overcome persecution (i.e., Trials) from Rome. Each turn, players draw cards from their respective decks (the Arm phase), complete five actions involving Trials, Praying, Sharing, Moving, and Growing (the Live phase), and then purchase new cards (the Mature Phase). During each Live phase, one player becomes the rotating Elder to decide how these five actions will be carried out but with the sage assistance and advise of the other players. You also do not need to know anything about Christianity to be qualified to play! We will be playing the first “Acts of the Apostles” scenario to spread the church and create the New Testament before the Trial Deck runs out or 5 churches are extinguished.

As howls and screams cut through the night, there is only one path left for your fearless investigators—hold back the horde long enough to somehow reverse the summoning.

The Resistance

Event #: SUN-BG-4 GM: Seth Kravetz
Event Description: "The Empire must fall. Our mission must succeed. By destroying their key bases, we will shatter Imperial strength and liberate our people. Yet spies have infiltrated our ranks, ready for sabotage. We must unmask them. In five nights we reshape destiny or die trying. We are the Resistance!"

The Resistance is a Social Deduction board/card game for 5-10 players from ages 12 and up, and each round runs about 30 minutes. The rules are straight forward, but it is by no means a simple game. No experience is required.

Drop in for a round or two and give it a try! I will host the table for two hours, and we will rotate through whoever wants to play as they show up.

Thunder Alley

Event #: SUN-BG-7 GM: Charles Klein
Event Description: Thunder Alley is a stock car racing game for 2–7 players with the feel and flexibility of a card-driven simulation. Drafting, teamwork, accidents, yellow flags, pit strategy, working to lead laps, and sprints to the finish are all included and bring the feel of racing to the game. Players control not one car, but a team of 3–6 cars. Thus, each race is not only a run for the checkered flag but an effort to maximize the score for every car on your team. Winning is important, but if only one car crosses the finish line, your team might end up outside the winner's circle looking in.

Rune Age + Oath and Anvil

Event #: SUN-BG-8 GM: Donald Speeg
Event Description: An age of innovation and discovery is at hand. With war on the horizon and whisperings of a prophetic storm approaching, now is the time to gather all your strength and set out to forge your place in Terrinoth's book of legends!

Rune Age is a deck-building game of adventure and conquest for 1-4 players. Set in the fantasy realm of Terrinoth (Runebound, Descent: Journeys in the Dark, Runewars, and DungeonQuest), Rune Age puts players in control of one of four races, vying for dominance in a world embroiled in conflict.

Designed by Corey Konieczka, Rune Age is a unique deck-building game that centers around scenarios. The four different scenarios included in Rune Age present alternate win conditions for players, from an all-out war to determine the victor to a cooperative game experience where players all win or lose together. Scenarios not only dictate the win conditions, they also determine which card types will populate Terrinoth (forming the central card pools) and which Event cards will form the Event deck. The Event deck contains thematic challenges, enemies, and happenings that are tied to the chosen scenario, creating a new play environment each turn.
--bgg
Resurgence of the Dragon-lords scenario is designed for players who enjoy a well-rounded experience. At its heard, the scenario is a race to defeat a powerful foe, bet with direct player confrontation sprinkled in. It is possible that no one defeats the objective and all players lose.

Rococo

Event #: SUN-BG-9 GM: Darrell Adkins
Event Description: Rococo is a Eurostyle board game with an interesting take on deck-building. Each turn you play one of your employee cards and let that employee perform a task: hire a new employee, buy resources, manufacture a coat or dress, or invest in the ball's decorations. But not every employee is up to every task, so you must choose and lead your employees wisely – especially since each employee grants a unique bonus and some of these bonuses generate prestige points.

After seven rounds, the game ends with the big ball and a final scoring. Then you gain prestige points for certain employee bonuses and for coats and dresses that you rent out to guests at the ball as well as for decorations that you funded. The player who collected the most prestige points wins.

SUN CARD GAMES

51ST STATE: MASTER SET

Event #: SUN-CG-1 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: The 50 States of the United States Are Gone-Can You Be the New 51st State?

51st State: Master Set is an apocalyptic-themed card-driven game (using some of the original game mechanics and certain mechanics from Imperial Settlers) in which players control one of four asymmetric factions trying to become a new country, the 51st State. Each player creates a card tableau for Production (to gain resources), Features (to gain bonuses, long term effects, and storage areas), and Actions (to gain new abilities). Each card can be used in three different ways: (1) Raze a card (using Red tokens) to gain its resources; (2) turn the card into a Deal (using Blue tokens) to gain the resource each turn; or (3) Build the card (using Gray tokens) to add it to the player’s tableau. Cards in a player’s tableau may also be Developed over with new cards. The last round of the game occurs when one of the players reaches 25 Victory Points, but play continues on until that round ends. Will play with both New Era and Winter expansion decks. Beginners and experienced players (including those who have played Imperial Settlers) are welcome!

THUNDERSTONE ADVANCE: TOWERS OF RUIN

Event #: SUN-CG-2 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Thunderstone Advance: Towers of Ruin is a fantasy themed deck-building game where players recruit and upgrade heroes in their deck, as well as buy weapons, items, spells, and villagers to help those heroes defeat a horde of monsters (including the dreaded Thunderstone Bearer) advancing through the Dungeon Hall from a monster stack. On each turn, players may choose one of four actions: (1) “select and battle” one of the revealed monsters in a Dungeon Hall space; (2) buy a hero, item, spell, or villager from the Village, as well as upgrade an existing hero using experience tokens; (3) “prepare” their existing hand by discarding one or more cards, and then drawing additional cards up to their hand limit of six cards; or (4) “resting” by removing (destroying) a card in their hand. Depending upon how “deep” the monster is in the Dungeon Hall, the player will need to overcome increasingly adverse Light effects to successfully defeat the selected monster. But watch out!: some monsters may also have one or more Battle and Aftermath effects which may cause loss of hero cards, as well as other undesired effects such as drawing Curse cards into their deck (and even adding such Curse cards to other players’ decks) that adversely impact subsequent battles against monsters and/or purchases from the Village. The game ends when either the Thunderstone Bearer is defeated, or escapes the Dungeon Hall by reaching the most forward (rank 1) space. Players then count up their combined Victory Points (VPs) from all monsters, heroes, and certain other Village cards in their deck with the player having the highest VP total being the winner. Beginners and experienced players are welcome!
