TERRAFORMING MARS: HELLAS & ELYSIUM + VENUS NEXT + PRELUDE

Event #: FRI-BG-2 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Can You Make Habitable One or Both of these Two New Regions on Mars? And Venus Too?

Terraforming Mars: Hellas & Elysium uses the double-sided expansion board along with the other base game components. We will be playing one or both sides of this expansion board depending upon what the players wish. Hellas, the southern wild, includes Mars’ southpole and the enormous seven-hex Hellas crater begging to become a giant lake. Building around the pole gives you new placement bonuses as heat and even water. Elysium is almost on the opposite side of Mars’ equator, with vast lowlands for oceans in the north and a dry, mineral-rich south. A tile placed on Olympus Mons gains three free cards! Each map has new milestones and awards. And the Venus Next expansion will also be part of the mix, along with the Prelude expansion with Prelude cards that allow customizing of your corporation to give it a "jumpstart"! For experienced players of Terraforming Mars only (at least 1-2 prior games with base game or expansion board, knowledge of base game rules is expected).

SUBURBIA

Event #: FRI-BG-1 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Suburbia is a highly thematic city-building game with the goal of having the largest population in the player’s borough. Each player buys and lays tiles in their borough to try to create an economic engine and infrastructure that is profitable, as well as encourages population growth. As income increases, more cash is on hand to purchase better and more valuable building tiles. As a player’s reputation increases, population will likewise increase. But beware!: increasing population will also eventually cause income and reputation to periodically decrease, so population growth must be managed carefully throughout the game. Players will also try to develop special bonuses and benefits that take advantage of the tiles placed in that player’s borough, as well as tiles placed in their opponents’ boroughs, plus also compete to achieve several unique goals that offer an additional population boost at the end of the game. Beginners and experienced players are welcome!

Titan

Event #: FRI-BG-7 GM: Floyd Resler
Event Description: This classic game of the Fantasy Monster Slug-a-thon is a standby from the The Avalon Hill Game Co of yore. The game still has a very devoted following, which is a tribute to the depth of the various strategies and approaches. The game is divided into two realms, the masterboard and the battleboards. On the masterboard, legions of mythical creatures roam about trying to recruit bigger and badder monsters and kill opposing legions in the process. When a combat occurs, the action moves to the corresponding battleboard type corresponding to the area the fight is taking place in. After lots of dice are tossed, the army that remains standing is returned to the masterboard with the spoils of war: points.

Imperial 2030

Event #: FRI-BG-11 GM: Joe Hoover
Event Description: New Players Welcome !

Imperial 2030 is a game on its own, based on the rules of Imperial. The six powers (USA, Europe, Russia, China, India, and Brazil) develop their industrial basis and build up armies and fleets. They fight over control of neutral land and sea areas in order to become the most powerful nation worldwide.

In this game it is not the players who take turns, but the six powers, one after another. The players are just internationally operating investors who act in the background. By giving money to the six powers, which all have their own treasuries, the players influence the politics. The biggest investor in each nation gains control of that nation's government and decides what the nation will do. As control of a government can change with each new investment, players may control several governments at the same time. As investors, players should not get too attached to their preferred nation, but rather focus on where their investments have the best rates of return. Essentially the game is about money, and not about military domination!

Rococo

Event #: FRI-BG-20 GM: Darrell Adkins
Event Description: Rococo is a Eurostyle board game with an interesting take on deck-building. Each turn you play one of your employee cards and let that employee perform a task: hire a new employee, buy resources, manufacture a coat or dress, or invest in the ball's decorations. But not every employee is up to every task, so you must choose and lead your employees wisely – especially since each employee grants a unique bonus and some of these bonuses generate prestige points.

After seven rounds, the game ends with the big ball and a final scoring. Then you gain prestige points for certain employee bonuses and for coats and dresses that you rent out to guests at the ball as well as for decorations that you funded. The player who collected the most prestige points wins.

Architects of the West Kingdom

Event #: FRI-BG-21 GM: James Stoneburner
Event Description: Architects of the West Kingdom is set at the end of the Carolingian Empire, circa 850 AD. As royal architects, players compete to impress their King and maintain their noble status by constructing various landmarks throughout his newly appointed domain. Players need to collect raw materials, hire apprentices, and keep a watchful eye on their workforce. These are treacherous times, and rival architects will stop at nothing to slow your progress. Will you remain virtuous, or be found in the company of thieves and black marketeers?

The aim of Architects of the West Kingdom is to be the player with the most victory points (VP) at game's end. Points are gained by constructing various buildings and advancing work on the Archbishop's cathedral. Throughout the game, players need to make a lot of moral decisions. However, only at game's end will their virtue be judged. A few underhanded deals here and there might not seem like much, but fall too far and you will be punished. The game ends once a set number of constructions have been completed.

THE FANTASY TRIP is an old-school RPG originally published in 1977 and for a brief time even rivaled D&D in popularity. Over 35 years later in April of 2019, THE FANTASY TRIP Legacy Edition will be back on store shelves! This game features easy character design, realistic tactical combat and focuses unabashedly on dungeon crawls and epic arena style battles! It is the perfect game for those who have never experienced role-playing games, or found modern RPG's overly complex with a few too many rules and character stats to memorize.

You'd do well to bring some dice. Just regular dice. Really--you can raid your Yahtzee set. Oh, and a pencil will be helpful. Our sharpener is not big enough for fingers, so you may not write in blood if you forget. For those of you who are familiar with modern RPG's, you should try to bring 4d6. We keep it OG with pips, but won't hold digits against you.

Start Time: 10:30am. Players should arrive by 10:00am, please call Karl Treier (513-560-3673) if you are running late.

Rules: Flames of War V4, Midwar 109 points, up to 2 formations.

Tournament details
Number of player openings: 20
The tournament is 3 rounds, 2.5 hours each, with 30 minutes for lunch after the first round. The tournament should end around 7:30pm.

Acceptable List Sources: Enemy at the Gates, Iron Cross, Red Banner, Ghost Panzers.

Fee for the tournament is $10, this will go towards prize support. Players should note that there is an entry fee for Cincycon as well, this is separate from the fee for the tournament. Players must also register for the convention at http://cincycon.org

Players should bring 3 identical physical copies of their list. Digital supplements/lists on tablets are welcome but physical lists are required. Players should print off their lists before arriving. Players will use the same list for the entire tournament. Players should email their list to Karl Treier (karl.treier@gametimeminiatures.com) by February 27th at 11:59pm to be reviewed for the extra sportsmanship point.

Players must also bring a copy of:
• The Flames of War V4 Rulebook (mini or standard size)
• Forces book their list came from (multiple if using more than one nation)
• Any Errata related to the rules or their force(s)

Players should also bring dice, tokens, template, unit cards, command cards, measuring tape, objectives, rule supplements or anything else they might need to play their army.

Armies don’t need to be fully painted or based but this will be part of the tournament scoring. WYSIWIG in terms of models is enforced (For example a Tiger I needs to be a Tiger 1, it cannot stand in for a Tiger 2, exceptions are noted below). Players should inform their opponents of any specialized teams, or special rules before their games(s) starts.

Missions will be determined using the Battleplans matrix in the Flames of War more missions packet on Battlefront’s website. Packet will be provided. The link for the mission packet is below. Tokens will be provided to indicate choice.

More Missions (PDF)

The results of the tournament will be posted to Battlerankings.com. Note that results posted to Battlerankings may be different from tournament standing, as the former emphasis gameplay score.

Any arguments or rule questions should be attempted to be resolved by first checking the rulebook, the players should then refer to the tournament organizer(s) (Karl Treier). The organizers decision will be final.

Players will be scored 3 ways:
Gameplay: Victory Points per the scenario in More MIssions.

Painting/Hobby points will be awarded as follows:
100% of army painted and 100% of army based (1 point). This is at the judgement of the tournament organizer.

Sportsmanship: At the end of the tournament each player uses the back of their scorecard to award points to their three opponents. Players can distribute up to a total of 9 points. A point will be added by the tournament organizer submitting their list early. Max points 10.

There will be awards for best axis general, best soviet general, painting, and sportsmanship. Prize support will be based on the number of attendees.
