Gods Love Dinosaurs

Event #: FRI-BG-2 GM: Floyd Resler
Event Description: How do you make an ecosystem flourish with just enough of every life form in the chain to supply you with dinosaurs to dominate the lands? Resources are scarce, animals can go extinct in an area, and everyone must eat to survive — so moves must be cunning. Life hangs in the balance...

In Gods Love Dinosaurs, a cheeky, wild, and timeless take on the scientific tale as old as life itself, you are a god who has been tasked with designing an ecosystem with a sustainable food chain of predator and prey animals. But you just love dinosaurs, so all you really want to do is to make as many of them as possible!

Each turn, you'll add one tile to your ecosystem, which will add new animals and give them room to grow. Every so often, your dinosaurs will tromp around your ecosystem eating all the animals. The more they eat, the more eggs they lay — and the more points you score! Just be careful not to overeat, or there won't be enough food to keep your dinosaurs alive the next time.

Le Havre

Event #: FRI-BG-7 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Le Havre is Uwe Rosenberg’s classic economic action selection/worker placement game. Each players turn consists of two parts: (1) distribute newly supplied goods onto one of 7 offer spaces; and (2) take an action by collecting the supplied goods from any of the 7 offer spaces, or else using one of the available buildings to upgrade goods, sell goods, or use those goods to build their own buildings or ships. Buildings are both an investment opportunity and a potential revenue stream, as players must pay an entry fee to use buildings that they do not own. Ships are used to provide a consistent stream of food to feed workers, as well as to ship goods for revenue. After every 7 turns, the round ends as each players’ cattle and grain may multiply through a Harvest, while the town may also construct special or standard buildings for use and/or purchase by the players. Players must also feed their workers, the amount required increasing each round. After a fixed number of rounds, each player may carry out one final action, and then the game ends. Players add the value of their buildings and ships to their cash reserves. The player who has amassed the largest fortune from a combination of money (francs), buildings, and ships is the winner. Beginners and experienced players are welcome!

BRASS: BIRMINGHAM

Event #: FRI-BG-8 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Brass: Birmingham is a new variant of Martin Wallace's classic economic strategy game, Brass (reissued under the name Brass: Lancashire). This new variant tells a different story of competing entrepreneurs in the West Midlands during England's industrial revolution. You must develop, build, and establish your industries and network so that you can capitalize on the demand for iron, coal, cotton, manufacture goods, pottery, and beer. The game is played over two halves: the canal phase and the rail phase. To win the game, score the most victory points (VPs), which are counted at the end of each half. VPs are gained from your canals, rails, and established (flipped) industry tiles. Each round, players take turns according to the turn order track, receiving two actions to perform any of the following: Beginners and experienced players are welcome!

Dinosaur Island + Totally Liquid expansion

Event #: FRI-BG-21 GM: Steven Dursch
Event Description: In Dinosaur Island, players will have to collect DNA, research the DNA sequences of extinct dinosaur species, and then combine the ancient DNA in the correct sequence to bring these prehistoric creatures back to life. Dino cooking! All players will compete to build the most thrilling park each season, and then work to attract (and keep alive!) the most visitors each season that the park opens.

Do you go big and create a pack of Velociraptors? They'll definitely excite potential visitors, but you'd better make a large enough enclosure for them. And maybe hire some (read: a lot of) security. Or they WILL break out and start eating your visitors, and we all know how that ends. You could play it safe and grow a bunch of herbivores, but then you aren't going to have the most exciting park in the world (sad face). So maybe buy a roller coaster or two to attract visitors to your park the good old-fashioned way?

FRI CARD GAMES

EMINENT DOMAIN

Event #: FRI-CG-1 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Eminent Domain is a sci-fi themed deck-building game where players grow their space empire by conquering/settling planets and crafting their deck to gain victory. During each turn, players may execute an optional “action” by playing of a card from their hand. In addition, players must then select and execute one Role card from one of five different stacks in the central card display: (1) Survey cards to add new planets; (2) Warfare cards to gain warships and conqueror new planets; (3) Colonize cards to settle new planets; (4) combined Produce/Trade cards to either produce goods or trade produced goods for Influence tokens (aka, Victory tokens); and (5) Research to gain technology cards providing special benefits and bonuses to their space empire. Players may “boost” with other cards in their hand and/or planets that have the same icon as the selected Role card. But opposing players may also “follow” with cards and/or planets in their hands/empires that have the same icon (or may “dissent” and draw a card from their draw pile)! When a certain number of card stacks are exhausted in the central display or all 24 Influence tokens have been taken, the game ends. Whoever has the most combined Influence (from tokens, planets, and/or technology cards) is the winner. Beginners and experienced players are welcome!

These are just a few of the possibilities in Chrononauts, the award-winning card game of time travel. To win, you must change history at key points called Linchpins, so that history transforms into the Alternate Reality your character calls home. You can also win by collecting a specific set of Artifacts, such as a live dinosaur, the Mona Lisa, and an unpublished Shakespearean play. Cartographers

Event #: FRI-CG-4 GM: Floyd Resler
Event Description: Queen Gimnax has ordered the reclamation of the northern lands. As a cartographer in her service, you are sent to map this territory, claiming it for the Kingdom of Nalos. Through official edicts, the queen announces which lands she prizes most, and you will increase your reputation by meeting her demands. But you are not alone in this wilderness. The Dragul contest your claims with their outposts, so you must draw your lines carefully to reduce their influence. Reclaim the greatest share of the queen’s desired lands and you will be declared the greatest cartographer in the kingdom.

In Cartographers: A Roll Player Tale, players compete to earn the most reputation stars by the time four seasons have passed. Each season, players draw on their map sheets and earn reputation by carrying out the queen's edicts before the season is over. The player with the most reputation stars at the end of winter wins!

Skull King + Legendary Expansion

Event #: FRI-CG-5 GM: Bridgette Scott-Devlin
Event Description: Skull King is a trick-taking game similar to 'Oh Hell!', 'Wizard', 'Euchre' and 'Spades', with players needing to state how many tricks they think they'll win each round. A unique element of this game is that bidding takes place simultaneously, leading to rounds that are sometimes over, or under-bid. As players must win the exact number of tricks that they bid to earn points, winning too many tricks is just as bad as winning too few and this leads to intense competition where losing a trick can be as exciting as winning one.
