SUBURBIA

Event #: FRI-BG-4 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Suburbia is a highly thematic city-building game with the goal of having the largest population in the player’s borough. Each player buys and lays tiles in their borough to try to create an economic engine and infrastructure that is profitable, as well as encourages population growth. As income increases, more cash is on hand to purchase better and more valuable building tiles. As a player’s reputation increases, population will likewise increase. But beware!: increasing population will also eventually cause income and reputation to periodically decrease, so population growth must be managed carefully throughout the game. Players will also try to develop special bonuses and benefits that take advantage of the tiles placed in that player’s borough, as well as tiles placed in their opponents’ boroughs, plus also compete to achieve several unique goals that offer an additional population boost at the end of the game. Beginners and experienced players are welcome!

Stone Age

Event #: FRI-BG-11 GM: Darrell Adkins
Event Description: A classic worker placement game; hunt for food, collect resources, expand your tribe, build huts and develop culture.

Rules can be found here!
New players are welcome, I am willing to teach.
Minimum age: 13+

"In Stone Age, the players live in the Stone Age, just as our ancestors did. They collect wood, break stone and wash gold from the river. They trade freely, expand their village and so achieve new levels of civilization. With a balance of luck and planning, the players compete for food in this pre-historic time. Players use up to ten tribe members each in three phases. In the first phase, players place their men in regions of the board that they think will benefit them, including the hunt, the trading center, or the quarry. In the second phase, the starting player activates each of his staffed areas in whatever sequence he chooses, followed in turn by the other players. In the third phase, players must have enough food available to feed their populations, or they face losing resources or points. First time players welcome, will teach."

Raiders of the North Sea Boardgame

Event #: FRI-BG-13 GM: James Spadafora
Event Description: "Raiders of the North Sea is set in the central years of the Viking Age. As Viking warriors, players seek to impress the Chieftain by raiding unsuspecting settlements. Players will need to assemble a crew, collect provisions and journey north to plunder gold, iron and livestock. There is glory to be found in battle, even at the hands of the Valkyrie. So gather your warriors, it’s raiding season!"

"The aim of Raiders of the North Sea is to impress the Chieftain by having the most Victory Points (VP) at the game’s end. Victory Points are gained primarily by raiding Settlements, taking Plunder and making Offerings to the Chieftain. How players use their Plunder is also vital to their success. The game ends when either only 1 Fortress raid remains, all Valkyrie are removed, or all Offerings have been made." from Renegade Games site.

Cottage Garden

Event #: FRI-BG-23 GM: TJ Chasteen
Event Description: In Cottage Garden, you compete in the art of gardening and are working two beds with a variety of flowers. Whenever no unplanted box is visible on a bed, you have completed it, then you count your points and replace it with a fresh, unplanted bed. You gain points for all of the visible plant pots and planting bells.

In more detail, players select various polyomino tiles of flower beds from a central market grid, depending on the location of the "gardener", then place them on one of their two personal garden boards. Each board has several garden elements that are worth points when not planted over, and these are scored on two different tracks as soon as a garden has been finished. Crossing over a line on each track awards bonus tokens that can fill in empty spaces or give you a better selection of the flower bed tiles. Whenever a garden is finished, you receive a new one to complete. After the gardener completes her fifth lap around the market, the game enters its last round. The player with the most points from their completed gardens at the end of the game wins.

New players welcome! Rules will be taught.

Imperial 2030

Event #: FRI-BG-24 GM: Joe Hoover
Event Description: Imperial 2030 is a game on its own, based on the rules of Imperial. The six powers (USA, Europe, Russia, China, India, and Brazil) develop their industrial basis and build up armies and fleets. They fight over control of neutral land and sea areas in order to become the most powerful nation worldwide.

In this game it is not the players who take turns, but the six powers, one after another. The players are just internationally operating investors who act in the background. By giving money to the six powers, which all have their own treasuries, the players influence the politics. The biggest investor in each nation gains control of that nation's government and decides what the nation will do. As control of a government can change with each new investment, players may control several governments at the same time. As investors, players should not get too attached to their preferred nation, but rather focus on where their investments have the best rates of return. Essentially the game is about money, and not about military domination!

Yokohama

Event #: FRI-BG-34 GM: James Stoneburner
Event Description: Once Yokohama was just a fishing village, but now at the beginning of the Meiji era it's becoming a harbor open to foreign countries and one of the leading trade cities of Japan. As a result, many Japanese products such as copper and raw silk are collected in Yokohama for export to other countries. At the same time, the city is starting to incorporate foreign technology and culture, with even the streets becoming more modernized. In the shadow of this development was the presence of many Yokohama merchants.

In YOKOHAMA, each player is a merchant in the Meiji period, trying to gain fame from a successful business, and to do so they need to build a store, broaden their sales channels, learn a variety of techniques, and (of course) respond to trade orders from abroad.

This game will be the Deluxified version of Yokohama, playing up to 4 players. New players are welcome, and I will teach the game.

FRI CARD GAMES

EMINENT DOMAIN

Event #: FRI-CG-1 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Eminent Domain is a sci-fi themed deck-building game where players grow their space empire by conquering/settling planets and crafting their deck to gain victory. During each turn, players may execute an optional “action” by playing of a card from their hand. In addition, players must then select and execute one Role card from one of five different stacks in the central card display: (1) Survey cards to add new planets; (2) Warfare cards to gain warships and conqueror new planets; (3) Colonize cards to settle new planets; (4) combined Produce/Trade cards to either produce goods or trade produced goods for Influence tokens (aka, Victory tokens); and (5) Research to gain technology cards providing special benefits and bonuses to their space empire. Players may “boost” with other cards in their hand and/or planets that have the same icon as the selected Role card. But opposing players may also “follow” with cards and/or planets in their hands/empires that have the same icon (or may “dissent” and draw a card from their draw pile)! When a certain number of card stacks are exhausted in the central display or all 24 Influence tokens have been taken, the game ends. Whoever has the most combined Influence (from tokens, planets, and/or technology cards) is the winner. May include the Escalation expansion for those who are interested. Beginners and experienced players are welcome!

For those selected phases, every player performs that phase’s action, with the player(s) selecting that phase also getting a bonus. Explore to draw more cards. Develop cards (diamond-shaped) to gain special powers and bonuses. Settle black circle-shaped worlds by discarding cards, or conqueror red circle-shaped worlds using red military points. Consume Produced goods for Victory Point chips, or to gain more cards through trade. Produce goods on settled worlds having one of four colors (blue, brown, green or yellow) for later Consume actions. The player who creates the galactic empire having the most points from placed world and development cards, plus Victory Point chips wins. Beginners, including those who would like to “demystify” Race’s card iconography, as well as experienced players are welcome! May include The Gathering Storm expansion for those who are interested.

AND WHAT IF… she’d been joined by the Indianola which had NOT been foolishly destroyed by her Confederate captors?
Let’s find out!

Battle of Wilson’s Creek

Event #: FRI-TA-27 GM: Alex MacDonald
Event Description: Union general Lyon had all but cleared the Rebels from Missouri, but the Confederate States and State of Arkansas have each sent a small army to the aid of Missouri’s pro Confederate governor and his poorly equipped Home Guards.

Now, Lyon must make his escape from the much larger Rebel forces facing him. The big problem is the very large amount of cavalry in the Rebel armies, and the week long march to the nearest Union supply base at Rolla, Missouri. Lyon decides on a surprise dawn attack to disrupt the Rebel cavalry, then get a head start down the road.

The custom 3D game board, created with input from the Wilson’s Creek Battlefield park rangers, includes models of the actual buildings present at the battle, destructable corn fields, hundreds of model trees, and 15 feet of 9mm scale rail fences. Figures are painted in the uniforms (or lack thereof) and carry the flags used at the battle.
