COMMISSIONED

Event #: SUN-BG-2 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Commissioned is a cooperative/collaborative-style boardgame involving a “reverse” Pandemic and deck-building mechanic. Using a beautifully designed two-sided board, players represent one of six early Christian Apostles who must work together to mature their faith decks, grow the church, collect the books of the New Testament, and overcome persecution (i.e., Trials) from Rome. Each turn, players draw cards from their respective decks (the Arm phase), complete five actions involving Trials, Praying, Sharing, Moving, and Growing (the Live phase), and then purchase new cards (the Mature Phase). During each Live phase, one player becomes the rotating Elder to decide how these five actions will be carried out but with the sage assistance and advise of the other players. You also do not need to know anything about Christianity to be qualified to play! We will be playing either: (1) the first “Acts of the Apostles” scenario (Board Side A); or (2) the fifth “To the Ends of the Earth” scenario (Board Side B). In each of these scenarios, the goal is to spread the church and create the New Testament before the Trial Deck runs out or 5 churches are extinguished.

THUNDERSTONE ADVANCE: TOWERS OF RUIN

Event #: SUN-CG-1 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Thunderstone Advance: Towers of Ruin is a fantasy themed deck-building game where players recruit and upgrade heroes in their deck, as well as buy weapons, items, spells, and villagers to help those heroes defeat a horde of monsters (including the dreaded Thunderstone Bearer) advancing through the Dungeon Hall from a monster stack. On each turn, players may choose one of four actions: (1) “select and battle” one of the revealed monsters in a Dungeon Hall space; (2) buy a hero, item, spell, or villager from the Village, as well as upgrade an existing hero using experience tokens; (3) “prepare” their existing hand by discarding one or more cards, and then drawing additional cards up to their hand limit of six cards; or (4) “resting” by removing (destroying) a card in their hand. The game ends when either the Thunderstone Bearer is defeated, or escapes the Dungeon Hall by reaching the most forward (rank 1) space. Players then count up their combined Victory Points (VPs) from all monsters, heroes, and certain other Village cards in their deck with the player having the highest VP total being the winner. Playtest: BIG CHICKEN

Event #: SUN-CG-2 GM: James Likes Games
Event Description: BIG CHICKEN is a dynamic and fiercely competitive card game designed for 3 to 6 players, that requires an adaptive strategy as the game unfolds. While luck determines the cards you receive, victory hinges on cunning and planning. Get ready for intense gameplay, spirited banter, and a lot of fun!

PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED TO THE WINNERS OF EACH GAME!

BIG CHICKEN has been designed to play well with 3 to 6 players (playing individually, not as teams or partners). We’ve worked hard to preserve the most important aspects of gameplay no matter the number of players – with as little mechanical difference as possible – so the same strategies and planning can be applied to any variation.

If you've played any of the following card games -- Big Two, Gang of Four™, Crazy Eights, Uno™, Tycoon, President, Hearts, Spades, or Poker -- you'll already be familiar with some of the mechanics of this game. But even if you haven't, it's easy to learn and tons of fun.

(The game has already been playtested extensively -- so we know YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE FUN! This playtest is meant to confirm the viability of our balancing mechanics for different player counts, and solidify some of our recent rule enhancements. But we're looking for additional feedback and stress testing of our ruleset, ahead of our move from the prototype stage to the beginnings of the publishing stage.)

Pathfinder #3-13: Guardian's Covenant (replayable)

Event #: SUN-RP-2 GM: Brian Dailey
Duration: 4 hour(s)
Event Description: Heed the call for heroes!

After assisting the people of Port Valen and protecting the town from rampaging trolls, the Society earned the approval of the settlement's leaders to establish a new Pathfinder lodge in the former feasting hall of the legendary warrior Sveinn Blood-Eagle. After enduring several months of dangerous ocean voyages to supply the new lodge and assist the town, venture-captains Bjersig Torrsen and Calisro Bennary requested permission for the Society to connect their new lodge in Port Valen to the Maze of the Open Road. By using the mystical extraplanar hedge maze, the venture-captains hope to strengthen the Society's presence in Arcadia. Rather than establish such a connection on their own, the venture-captains consulted Port Valen's leaders to determine the most responsible means of opening the portal. Their careful research brought them to a fey guardian in the Forest of Trials. The guardian readily agreed to the Society's proposal, on one condition. To keep the portal opened, the Society must regularly send heroes to perform heroic deeds in and around the Forest of Trials!

Duration: 4 hour(s)
Event Description: A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for 1st- through 4th-level characters. (pregen characters available)

Drandle Dreng's unmasking as the member of the Decemvirate known as Sapphire has left the Sewer Dragons in a sort of limbo, with one of their strongest political allies largely stripped of influence. Chief Yiddlepode still believes that these agreements with outsiders is the best way to keep the Sewer Dragons strong, but, while that was an easy case to make before their territory was devastated, doubts have arisen among other members of the tribe in the ensuing years. Trapmaster Tok especially has begun to blame the Pathfinder for their misfortune. He has issued a challenge to Yiddlepode for the leadership of the Sewer Dragons, and she has turned again to the Pathfinders. The conflict brewing beneath the streets of Absalom threatens to destabilize the whole city. The PCs need to prove to the beleaguered kobold allies that the best way foward is together

River of Lies [Play Test]

Event #: SUN-RP-6 GM: James Pozenel
Duration: 4 hour(s)
Event Description: Play Test of River of Lies, a Purple Planet setting adventure for 3rd level characters.

The ghost river is a legend among the great houses. It appears only during torrential lightning storms, and never in the same place. A coursing river, crashing with whitecaps, appears where previously there was none, rushing uphill from the wastes to the Ancestor Peaks, where it races up the high crags and into the sky.

Sages claim the Ghost River of Varnasu was a sacred rite of the proud and long gone inhabitants of the Purple Planet. Its pilgrims were the old, infirm, dishonored, or ashamed who believed that the tribulations of mortal life would be assuaged by the holy journey. To “go with the river” was to transition into amaranthine honor and life.

As you venture across the Purple Planet, multiple lightning strikes streak the sky; within moments you are caught in a torrential downpour. A great crashing sluice of water forms around you. Lightning strikes again, you see several ethereal kith beckoning to you. The Ghost River of Varnasu would claim you!

A great zephyr from the storm-wracked sky flings you into the surprisingly warm waters. The water swiftly moves towards the Ancestor Peaks. As you struggle against the mighty rapids, you wonder if the legendary deluge will truly grant everlasting life or is it just a – River of Lies!?

Pre Gens provided.

Representatives from the Red Corridors vehemently deny any involvement in the abductions, but rising tensions and the desperation of those who have lost are primed to spark violence. With citizens of both the Sea of Grass and the Red Corridors distrustful of the ruling Doyenate and refusing to cooperate with ship security, the captain of the Idari calls for help from an old friend: Ehu Hadif, current First Seeker of the Starfinder Society.
